Selamat Designs partnered with the Museums of New Mexico to create the Crossroads collection — a capsule of furniture, lighting, and accessories rooted in the rich design traditions of the American Southwest. Drawing inspiration from the extraordinary Decorative Arts holdings at the Museum of International Folk Art and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, the collection bridges centuries of craft heritage with contemporary home design.
The design process was as intentional as the work itself. The team immersed themselves in the museums' archival collections, studying the visual language of folk art and Indigenous artistic traditions from across the globe. To ensure that every piece honored its source material with integrity, designs were reviewed by a council of Indigenous community members representing their own cultures — a meaningful step to ensure the collection celebrated rather than appropriated the traditions that inspired it. A portion of all proceeds from the Crossroads collection is returned directly to the Museums of New Mexico, supporting educational programming and future exhibitions that keep these vital cultural institutions and the communities they represent alive and thriving.
